Unique Goal Setting Method to Successfully Rebuild Your Life with Purpose
Unique Goal Setting Method By Terry & Donna
Are you ready to transform your life? You can do it with a proven plan! Today, I want to share my simple, yet powerful Unique Goal Setting Method called The True North Method. I developed this life structure to achieve my dreams and I’m here to show you how you can achieve yours too.
Hi, I’m Donna, co-founder of Rebuild With Clarity with my husband, Terry. We’re passionate about helping you build your best life beyond life’s toughest challenges.
The Unique Goal Setting Method at a Glance
Before we dive into the details, here is a quick look at the four pillars of my unique goal setting method:
- Heart: Identify what brings you genuine joy.
- Soul: Discover what feeds your inner spirit and brings peace.
- Mind: Expand your mental strength through constant learning.
- Strength: Focus on your physical well-being and your “sturdy frame.”
From just a Backpack to a Beautiful Life
People often ask me how I achieved my goals so quickly. After I left an abusive marriage with almost nothing, just a backpack, a small suitcase, and $40. I had to rebuild from scratch. I was lost, but I knew I was meant for a life of joy.
I prayed and asked, “What is my true purpose?” The answer was clear: Love. Specifically, the Greatest Commandment: to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. This spiritual foundation became the basis for The True North – my unique goal setting method.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. ~ Mark 12:30
My Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength Method
To get started, find a quiet place and grab a journal. Writing your thoughts down is how you create the vision for your future. Here is how to break down your goals using My unique goal setting method:
1. Heart: What Do You Love?
Think about what brings you genuine joy. On my list, I wrote nature, music, and my fur babies. These are the “warm” elements that make you feel at home.
- Your Action: Write down three things that make your heart happy.
2. Soul: What Gives You Peace?
This is about your inner self. What feeds your spirit? For me, it’s private time, reading, and writing poetry and being out in nature. You might notice that “Heart” and “Soul” often overlap, that’s a sign you’re finding what truly matters!
- Your Action: Identify one activity that brings peace to your soul.
3. Mind: How Can You Expand Your Mental Strength?
Never stop learning. I focused on inspiring books that kept my outlook full of hope and practical steps. If you are looking for your purpose, a great book to read is S.H.A.P.E. by Erik Rees.
- Your Action: What is one book or course that could expand your perspective?
4. Strength: How Can You Become Stronger?
To rebuild, you need a sturdy frame. This refers to your physical well-being. I started by joining a hiking group and choosing whole foods over fast food.
- Your Action: What is one way you can strengthen your body this week?
The Fun Part: Dream Big!
Once you have reflected on these four areas and wrote down action steps, imagine what your life could look like if you were fully living out your purpose. When I first started rebuilding my own life, I was riding a used bike to a temp job. Today, Terry and I live in our dream home in the Pacific Northwest, enjoying cycling, camping, boating, hiking and skiing. I am living the dream I wrote down, and you can too.
Taking Action: One Daily Brick
My unique goal setting method only works if you actually pick up the tools. Once you’ve discovered what feeds you heart, soul, mind and strength and then pictured your dream, it’s time to lay the first brick. Start today by just taking one tiny action from your list, like joining a group. Once that brick is set, move on to the next area of your list from my signature True North Method of your Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength.
